The Story

Welcome to Captains Live, the new breeding ground for Irelands very best in signed and unsigned live music. Captains Live now has three dedicated music venues in Dublin – the original Captains Live situated above the Captain Americas Cookhouse in Tallaght, our new state of the art venue in Blanchardstown, And our most recent venue situated next to Captain Americas on Grafton street. Captains Live sessions are also held in the Captain Americas Cork which is situated on South Main St which is currently being developed with a view of having its own dedicated Captains Live venue.

Captains Live Tallaght was born on June 27th, 2008. When a group of young local musicians recognized the need for a new live music venue in the Dublin suburb, needless to say the boss’s at Captain Americas were happy to embrace the idea. A young band called Good News took to a small stage in the corner of upstairs in the restaurant on that night and Captains Live was born. Good News have since gone and renamed themselves to Bipolar Empire, a band now tipped for great success, having just completed an album in Las Angeles with u2 producer Pat McCarthy, a performance at Oxegen and more recently being announced to be the sound to 2fm’s new “Come Together” advertisement campaign.

Since that fateful night in June ‘08, the ‘upstairs’ restaurant in Tallaght has been transformed into the seven-nights-a-week Captains Live Venue and since then the four walls have welcomed now infamous performances of some of Ireland’s finest new talent. Over the three Summers of its existence, Captains Live Tallaght has played host to well known Irish bands with such as Dirty Epics, Codes, The Mighty Stef, The Brothers Movement The Rags. Captains Live has played it’s part in giving new bands and musicians a much needed live music platform and the intimate venue in Tallaght has been known to have regular performances from the bands that helped make it happen such as The Cades, Deshonos, The Shady Boys, The Looks, The Struts, Neon Stars, Blue Syndrome, The Eskies, Leopold, Me & The General, Gypsies on the Autobahn, The Hot Sprockets and many more.

On the July bank holiday weekend 2010, the brand new state of the art Captains Live Blanchardstown was launched with the massive Captains Live Independence Weekend Festival, which saw the very best Irish bands and DJs performing over two days and nights at the new location. Declan O’Rourke, Codes, The Chapters, Bipolar Empire, The Mighty Stef, The Rags and a host of others popped the musical cherry of Blanchardstown’s best new live music venue. DJs from all of the top Dublin indie clubs gathered for a blitz of speaker blowing sets and over 1,000 music fans enjoyed the sounds and cocktails at Captains Live Blanchardstown.

Since its launch, the venue has kept its word on its promise of an unrelenting touring schedule of live music. The worth of the venue is reflected in the fact that record company giants EMI Records have partnered up for a weekly Friday night get together called ‘The New Breed Sessions’ featuring the best emerging Irish bands. Choice music prize nominee R.S.A.G. and dirty rock merchants The Minutes, have already featured. On the cards over the coming months are acts such as Ham Sandwich, Le Galaxie, Crayonsmith, Miracle Bell, Sweet Jane and the list just keeps on growing. And live music isn’t the only entertainment on the menu! Our selection of Dj’s  provide everything from chart, hip hop, electro to old school dance that will keep you bopping all week long!

Captains live in all branches looks forward to a huge 2011, starting off with a battle of the bands with a prize any band would drool over, then to grafton st setting out on a new adventure with a state of the art venue and countless new opportunities coming its way!!

Its safe to say Captains is well and truly “Live”
